1992 Ciera S: Transmission Sometimes Won't Engage
3.3L Engine and 4T60 Transmission with just shy of 184,000 miles on both.
When I come to a stop after running the car over 40-45MPH the transmission will disengage and will appear to stay in neutral until I shift into another gear and then back into OD. I do not think the shift lever is at fault because if I wait a few seconds it will engage on it's own. This issue seems to happen more often when I drive in shorts bursts. Ex: A short (1-2 mile) drive on the freeway will trigger it almost every time but a 5+ mile trip seldom will. Aside from a few minor repairs this car has been running fine for years but this is now a developing issue. I first encountered this issue a few years ago but it happened very seldom. The only related repair would be a replacement of the transmission cooling lines, but this issue occurred before I replaced them and did not get any worse after. |
