Done AutoRx cycle, swithed to syn oil, but smoke is coming out.
Hello there,
Car Model: 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada 4WD What I did: Changed the motor oil and oil filter oil changed: Royal Purple 5W-30D synthetic (used 5 quarts) additives: AutoRx (1 bottle) Drove about 1300 miles oil filter: Mobil 1 previous oil: Valvoline DuraBlend 1/2 synthetic previous filter: Vavoline problem: I changed the motor oil and oil filter this morning then drove to work, when i got to work i checked the oil level, the oil level is fine, maybe a little 2 much. Then i saw smoke coming out of the dipstick tube. Is this normal or am i screwed. The oil temp is 40 when the car is idle, when it is moving its around 50ish or 60. Things i learned: The oil filter can not be twisted off with ease Buy a new bolt when changing any oil, mines was totally striped. -foon p.s Have a great day..everyday! Thanks for the help, it seems like every post i'd ever made was to ask for help, thanks everyone. |

all three of the 4.3l engines I have use 4 1/2 quarts. on my oldest one if I fill it all the way it will burn off a 1/2 quart right away then lose nothing until the next oil change so I just put 4 quarts in it to start with. a neighbor of mine has a simular problem with his Dodge diesel.
all oils release smoke and vapors that are usualy recoverd by the PCV valve (positive crankcase ventilation) and are sent thru the intake and burned in the engine for pollution control. the smoke coming out of the dipstick could be because you've over loaded the system and it has to go somewhere. it could also be from compatibility issue with the residual oil in the engine. |

1.) You don't add AUTORX to a full load of oil, you subsitute the voume of autoRX for the oil it will be replacing.
Also, you were supposed to drive 1500 miles, not 1300. You truck take 5.0L of oil with a filter replacement. NOTHING MORE! You need to replace your PCV valve.

Thanks Ericn1300 you totally answer a question thats been bugging me ever since the oil change, i figure more is better and its only 1/2 quart more, guess not.
BlazerLT, i drove 1500, its a typo. I didn't know about subsituting the oil for Auto-Rx i just pored the whole bottle in 1500 miles later after the oil change at Valvoline. Do you think it still had effect or should i do Auto-RX again. Thanks for post your Auto-rx results and answering everybody's ?? on this board! |

Quote:
1.) Did you drive the 3000 miles rinse cycle yet? You do know you have to run a 3000 mile rinse cycle with normal conventional oil don't you? 2.) The PCV valve is in the driver's side valve cover.
