Not much to show you guys, but I worked on the valve covers and painted the engine black. A very important thing are the Honda logos on the valve covers. I decided to use the original letters (not the PE Parts from the PP set), I simlpy covered them with Bare Metal Foil Aluminium and then sprayed some layers black. (after the paint has fully dried, I will carefully sand until I get a nice aluminium shine )
The Honda "H" Logo, looks a bit weird, don't know why. It looks perfect in "real"... before and after both covered engine parts black Next step will be painting the gearbox, so stay tuned... Last edited by Decs0105; 04-06-2014 at 06:03 AM. |

next update,
I lightly sanded the Honda Letters on the valve covers to bring back the shine from the BMF Aluminium but the worst case scenario happened. I fu**ed up the Honda logos on both sides... I am still not sure how to fix this, maybe I will just apply BMF on the Honda logo and paint it or I will remove the complete paint (brake fluid will do the job...) Anyway here are some pics, BTW you can see the structured finish as on the real car. Last edited by Decs0105; 04-06-2014 at 06:03 AM. |

It looks darn good! I'm in awe to see the full build...
May I ask what type of paint did you use for the covers? Or was it sprayed from a large distance? Cheers, Pedro. |

BTW I just put the 2 covers in brake fluid to remove the paint. I will re-do them. I wasn't quite satisfied with the surface of the BMF after sanding. For my next try I will spray a layer of clear after I applied the BMF, so I don't have to sand the foil, only the clear coat (and it's easier not to damage the foil ) I hope that works... |

Nice texture to the black on the cam covers. I'd have thought the PP detail set had PE honda logos?

It's a great idea you have going, so lets hope this time around its just how you want it. I remember this kit when I was a lot younger, it's actaully an old kit now, and I remember it being very expensive. I will continue to watch this progress thread, as I'm keen to see this one in superb detail build up. Good luck mate.. |

Saint
Good to see you've started this one, I can't bring myself around to get involved in mine yet, I've had all the parts for a while but just haven't started it!!! Great start on the engine, I look forward to seeing this come together and also to picking up some tips for when I do mine!!! By the way, do you ever hear of those vacform windscreens anymore, I haven't got one yet.

some preview shots of the gearbox!
I hope to "finish" (maybe finish isn't the right word, add some more parts would be better ) at the weekend...then I will post more pics! Don't worry about the white "strips", they will be hidden under the valve covers (when they're finished ) BTW I am really busy at the moment, I'll try to answer the questions at the weekend. I added some more details and I used the first parts from the perfect parts set. These parts are really easy to work with and look amazing, worth ever cent. I mainly worked on the Engine block header flanges (I hope this is the right word, please correct me if I am wrong )
stock added PE parts bolts added + clear orange (heat staining, not finished yet). It's a bit too much orange at the moment close-up, first 2 are finished, 3rd from left not painted with clear orange but detailed with some bolts. left side "finished" BTW As you can see I took these pics with different settings. The last pic looks best, I think.. I had a hard time removing the paint from the valve covers, I simply couldn't remove the Tamiya primer completly but anyway I re-painted them today. I hope they turn out good... Last edited by Decs0105; 04-06-2014 at 06:04 AM. |
