96 Geo Track _ exhaust turns red_car putts

Hi there.
I have a 96 Geo tracker. Lately my geo track putts and shakes when I start it up. I now lose half the amount of gas mileage when I drive the vihicle. Yesterday my friend and I were driving along, and the Geo tracker drove like it was low on gas. When pressing fully down on the gas pedal the car would slowly drag, shake and putt up to speed. My friend and I too a look under the vehicle, and to our surprice the entire exhaust system was pulsating red hot! Before we thought the problem was a belt. We also thought it was a venting or patching problem. Is the exhaust system clogged? Thanks for reading. Any advice given would be greatly apriciated.

sounds like your catalytic converter is stopped up , put a new one on and that should take care of you problem
