Faulty OBD 2 port

I have a 2007 MX5 and when I took it to a local mechanic for a mandatory NY State vehicle inspection, the mechanic had trouble establishing a connection to his computer at the OBD2 port. It would establish a connection and then it would lose the connection. He had to wiggle his connector a few times until he was finally able to obtain a constant connection to complete the inspection. He advised that the port is faulty and needs to be replaced.
Can anyone provide me with detailed information as to how to replace the port? Also, should I use a universal replacement port or is there an MX5 specific replacement part?

Re: Faulty OBD 2 port

I would go to a couple auto part stores and see if they have issues reading before you replace your end.

Re: Faulty OBD 2 port

Thanks for the fast reply. I should have mentioned that I plugged my Obd2 reader into the port and even with my reader I get intermittent connectivity. I have to jiggle the reader plug a few times before I get a continuous connection.
