High mileage on a Tiburon?

I'm looking to buy a fairly high mileage tiburon used.... it has 70k miles...

the clutch was just replaced at 60k and it drives really well currently...

How many miles should I expect being able to get out of this without any major repairs? Are there any known problems when these cars go over 100k?

Also given that gas mileage and longevity of the car are the most important thing... should I just get an old 2 dr Civic with around 80k miles instead?

Re: High mileage on a Tiburon?

if the car was taken care of before then there shouldn't be any problems

I honestly think you should go with the Tib. Not only for the fact that I despise over cliched Civics, bleh...but my my 01 Tib has fairly high milage that just keeps climbing higher. I put on anywhere from 700-1k miles a week. Got it at 44k in Feb and now its sittin at around 64k. So far I havnt had any major mech problems. Just brakes, belts, tires, service shit like that. But thats just my perspective. It is a pretty well built piece of machinery. A few gliches here and there, but thats with any car out there.

Re: High mileage on a Tiburon?

well it really always comes down to what car you want more. plus, try to tell me that the civic looks better than a tib. honestly though, hyundai puts out that 100k warranty on new cars with good reason.. why not? i mean, the only real trouble spots i've heard about are the clutch.

i have a 99 RD1 and am at 104k miles on it with no real problems. I bought it with 65K on it and have had to replace all the wheel bearings(which seems to be a common thing) The engine still runs great, tranni is tight, No fluid leakage at all. Its been kept clean and maintained well since I bought it. I drive it in winter with a winter set of tires and its drive surprisingly well. I expect to get another couple years out of it hopefully.

Get the tib, its a great looking car that you wont see very often. I have kept mine with a stock looking exterior with the exception of new wheels/tires and still get a lot of comments on it.
