belt tensioner and pulley replacement

My cousin has a 2002 Ford Escape with 3.0 engine that needs a belt tensioner and pulley.
Has anyone done this job ? Can an old BYM do this without any special tools or know how ?

Thanks for any help you may provide

Re: belt tensioner and pulley replacement

looks simple enough

just rotate the tensioner clockwise to loosen the belt

maybe you only need the belt that's stretched/worn... why do you need the tensioner as well?

and if you can't reach the tensioner to take off the belt, there's a rental tool you can use

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ino...yContent=belts

if that link didn't work,

i'd just do the belt & if you hear any squealing after the new one is put on, then go for the tensioner as well...

Re: belt tensioner and pulley replacement

Thakns ricbike,

I did not hear the noise, she just called me to ask if I could do it. Her brother in Fl told her what the problem was. He had one of his mechanics look at it but she did not have the funds to fix it then. She is back in Mi now and wants to get it fixed. I will check it out further. I was just wondering how much of a job it was to do it.

Thanks again
