Re: Fujimi 1/24th Toyota Corolla 1972
too funny about the panel wash comment. I do them on some cars, and others I don't. Is it really even necessary?
nice build! |

thanks for the comments,
i know some colors really need that panel wash, this one looks ok in person without one. the photos kind of washed it out Paul |

Great, clean little build! Looks fantastic. I agree, and never do panel washes, as I find they almost always make the car look like a toy (can you really see panel lines on a car from 30 feet away? And how many scale feet away are we when we look at our models?). Great build!

Very cool, I love these Toyotas but I have to disagree with some of you guys about the panel lines. When done right, they actually make a model look a lot more realistic. I respect it if you decide not to do them on this build, this is not a critisism but the facts don't lie.....

Re: Fujimi 1/24th Toyota Corolla 1972
Not to hijack the thread, but that doesn't look better to me... it looks like someone photoshopped lines onto a picture in my opinion; even when done by one of the best modelers on AF. Facts seem pretty subjective, I guess.

Re: Fujimi 1/24th Toyota Corolla 1972
there is a compromise possible with panel gaps/lines, which I quite like as an option, that instead of using black ink wash, is to pre-paint the gaps with a slightly darker shade of the body color
it works very well, and much less obvious than some other techniques |

Re: Fujimi 1/24th Toyota Corolla 1972
You are right Willimo and I respect every opinion, it's always a matter of taste and that's understandable and again, I love the way the Toyota came out, nice and clean but at least to me, the panel lines mean everything when putting a model together. I scribe mine very deeply, wash them right on the plastic even before adding primer and will not have to touch them after that. If you look at that Mustang, those lines definitely don't look photoshopped, you would have definitely known if they were.

Re: Fujimi 1/24th Toyota Corolla 1972
Hey guys thanks for the complements.
i would like to try that pre shading or filling in a darker color but too late for this one. put panel lines on the civic crx i just finished, that turned out ok. i do think it depends on how thick the line ends up on the finished model. Paul |

Re: Fujimi 1/24th Toyota Corolla 1972
The thing about panel lines is you have to do them in a darker shade of the body color for "scale" realism, not just black..
Nice looking model btw.. I wish you would reconsider the panel lines though.
