1997 Nissan Frontier trans/clutch problem?

wanting to buy a used 1997 Nissan Frontier 2wd, 5 speed, but it has a problem. If transmission is in any gear you can push and it moves like it is in neutral. clutch arm on tran moves when pedal is pressed, seems hydraulics work. i am somewhat mechanical.....confused. trans in gear, clutch not compressed and car rolls ? any ideas.
PS.... current owner said was driving down road, went to switch gears and car acted like in neutral.
