Re: Mustang or Firebird or Camaro
I really like the Shelbys too, but there hard to find and a little expensive, but if I got a mustang it probably wouldn't be shelby, i wish i could get one though.

this is a hard choice, but i think id go with he camaro, cause i heard that it had the better frame design, that it was more stiffer or something, and better balance for cornering, although you could always stiffen up the chassis, and tune the suspension.

If you are going to be buying any of these cars from the 60s, then I would forget cornering all together. These cars do not corner well, they are pretty much straight bullets. Thats just the way they were made. I would probably go with the Camaro to, they look nice, and it would probably be the easiest to get parts for.

Re: Mustang or Firebird or Camaro
i agree with kurtdg19, muscle cars cant handle well at all, they werent meant to. they are meant to be driven down the 1/4 mile. to heavy and to much body roll to turn fast.

Not all muscle cars back then were meant only for the drag strip. Some were designed for track racing. The AAR Cuda with a 340 sixpack is one such example.

The AAR Cuda may have handled well against its competition for its time, but its still a far cry from anything even sub-phenomenal. I say buy a early 70s Trans Am, AMC AMX Javelin, a Corvette, or perhaps the Cuda if you want decent handling. The cars in this era were much better for straight sprints over anything else. Unless you had a GT40. My dad had a Cuda with the 383 in it, and it did haul ass. Still, the steering had the standard loose feel of its time and it weighted quite the few to be doing any aggressive handling. I've also driven a 69' Firebird with a built 400, it had lots of power. The steering also felt very loose. It hardly felt confining controling it over 100+ while trying to stay in my lane. I've had my 88' Pontiac over 120 and it still handled with plenty of confidence. The best handling car I've been in was my Uncle's very nice 911. He took my out on 65 at 135mph, and it still felt very very stable. You gotta love those porsches. Maybe thats why I like them so much...
Anyways back to the subject, I slowly drifted off hehe. |
