Windshield wiper problem?
My windshield wipers work intermittently. WHen they quit, I can usually reach outside the drivers window and push them or pick them up and drop them or poke on them and they will start working again. did a search and it appears I can buy a circuit board for $35 and this will fix the problem? Is this the consensus?

Re: Windshield wiper problem?
Indeed you can buy the circuit. However the problem is most of the time with broken solder connection on that circuit. Remove the circuit, and carefully solder again all connections specially those leading to the wire connector, and you can be back with normal wipers for 0$.

Re: Windshield wiper problem?
Dear LMP,
I just wanted to say Thank You, to you, for your links to the pictures and diagrams for the wiper service. I did a friends 95 Trans Sport yesterday, and with your pictures and diagrams, we were done in less than an hour. And we were doing the job, at night, outside ! So half the time, we were setting up drop lights and getting tools for the job. You are an asset to this forum. Kevin Martin in Rhode Island Kevins1955 |

Re: Windshield wiper problem?
LMP,
After reading the last response, I took off to Advance Auto at 5:15 pm today. It is now 5:55 pm (same day!) and I have completed the job I have been dreading for the last 3 months. I had quit driving my Transport in the rain. Your info and pictures are what enabled me to do this job. By the way, "I" do believe in miracles. wink... |

Re: Windshield wiper problem?
I had myself lived dangerously with the wiper problem, opening the hood and displacing the wiper motor bundle of wires just to see it work for a limited time before I searched and found the "wiper syndrome" by JIXIX...related to his Surburban..but naturally common to a lot of GM cars. Aided with my Transport manual...that by the way has the graphic art upside down....(I edited and reversed it for the posted version) I corrected my problem in a short time, then later took a few pictures.
It is just fun to know it serves.

Re: Windshield wiper problem?
I just purchased a 93 Transsport, and 2 weeks after getting it the wipers started to do the dance. That fix from the GMC site worked like a charm, but instead of using a fuse I used speaker wire (real thick) to connect the broken link. 2 weeks later all is well. Boy, what a strugle to get the wiper motor off the top fire wall, but once off, putting back on was easy.
Thanks. |

Re: Windshield wiper problem?
Most excellent solution! I will add that I am very nearsighted and just by looking at the places in question they looked good. But my microscope showed all of them were cracked. Soldered them up and presto! Back to the world of normal wiper operation.

Re: Windshield wiper problem?
I pulled the wiper motor and resoldered the smart card (1993 Trans Sport). I could see one of the joints was broken above the connector. I reheated the other four joints in that group, just in case. It is fixed! It took me 30 minutes to complete. This resolder solution is the way to go for this wiper trouble. Thanks Automotive Forums!
