'88 Escort Wagon wont start
Hi all,
Had a problem starting up my girlfriends Escort yesterday. Driving onto an on ramp, the car stopped. Initially, when i arrived, the car started fine, but stalled out when the gas was pressed. We had it towed to a local R&S Auto, where they found the distributor cap to be cracked. I replaced the cap and rotor, put the plugs in the right firing sequence (as per a manual (starting at about 11 o'clock 1-3-4-2). Now the car will turn over but not start. Originally, the car would start but pop when gas was given, now it wont start. When turning the ignition the starter turns, but the engine wont start and when I release the ignition, the engine makes a different popping noise than before. If anyone can help itd be appreciated, cuz R&S is trying to charge me lots of money for nothing. Thanks for the help in advance. Pinto |

Re: '88 Escort Wagon wont start
I have a 1994 escort LX. Today while driving home, I noticed that i was having to downshift to get up a hill.. no matter how much gas i gave her, she just wouldn't accelerate. I slowed down, shifted into 2cd to make a turn and whammo she stalled. Was going downhill so i tryed to bump it. She for a sec, started then immediatly died. Brought her to a stop. She sounds like she wants to turn over but just don't have that spark.. any idea what could be wrong ?

Re: '88 Escort Wagon wont start
it is probably out of time since the distributor was messed with. Make sure #1 is at TDC and line up the distributor according to the specs.
Hmm... also... make sure you connected the distributor to the coil. |
