Question Finding a used car without all the nanny features

Hello everyone:

I am searching for another car. Below are some things that I'm looking for:

- Used
- Looking for something sporty and comfortable for daily driving and long road trips
- Not picky on the year
- Style: Coupe, sedan, hatchback, or wagon
- Engine: I4, V6, or V8 (as long as the overall drivetrain combo isn't underpowered).
- Transmission: Auto or manual (manual preferred/no CVTs)
- Budget: $15000
- Nice to haves: CD player, and the less nanny features the better

The biggest issue I'm having with newer cars is the amount of nanny features being shoved down my throat. I'm not talking about the basic safety stuff such as seatbelts, airbags, and ABS brakes that have been around for decades. The safety features I don't want are the more recent and intrusive ones like forward-collision avoidance, lane departure, and blind spot monitor. I have rented newer cars with these features and they activated and interfered with my driving when I didn't want them to. I love cars and driving, but these features are seriously sucking all the enjoyment out of it.

I would appreciate any advice about how to go about searching for a car that I'll be happy with.

Thanks!

Welcome to AF. A lot of those "nanny" features" can be shut off or trimmed back.

2011-12 Honda Accord! Seek out one with under 100,000miles, and you'll have a best friend for many years.

Okay, but can the features be shut off permanently? I don't want to have to turn them off or adjust things every time I start the car.

PS Nice to see some love for the Max Wedge on here

NHRA national record holder in 1973. You are have to do your homework on a modern vehicle of any brand to see what of the unwanted safety features can be changed. Based on online ratings Suburu, Honda and Toyota, in general, get top ratings.
