Scale Production Golf II Rallye Review

First off i have to say i was very eager for this kit to come out and once mike told me its out i had to get it. And boy am i impressed. Now hopefully this will get me motivated again to start building with the limited time i have now a days. Thanks Mike.
Its a Scale Production T-kit of the Golf MkII Rally edition. A Fujimi Mk II golf is needed as a donor to complete this kit. Kit consists of a full resin body, interior bits and wheels which are optional for additional amount of money. The kit cost me 55 euros. Wheels were an additional 10 euros. Not a bad price IMO.

Now on to the pictures!! The box.

What is found inside

The instruction Manual

Photo-etch

Clear parts

Wheels (optional for 10.00 Euro more)

Best part the body and grill

All in all its a great kit for the price. There is so few imperfections in the body that its pretty much all set for primer without even touching it. Scale Production's resin casting is second to none. Even looking at the wheels, the holes in between the spokes are so small and there is hardly any flash! Also the wheels come with female or male mounting points so you can use them on another build if you decide to go with another set.

The only downfall is that you get seatbelt material but no seatbelt PE. Partly i think because this is a street version. Also there are no decals with the kit. Although SP plans on releasing decals for a livery in the future.

If your a VAG fan then this is a must have. The price is very fair for what you get. I for one am planning to buy another one so i can do a rally version. And don't forget the Jetta will be coming out within the next few months.

Thanks for looking.
Mark

It would make a nice rally car project, but I would expect a set of decals included for that price. You also have to find and buy the donor kit, so it's pretty expensive.

Rally decals won't serve for this model, it will require a new body as nor the 1986/87 Gr.A neither the 90's G60 have the exact same body that this street rally version.

What would be great is the 86/87 rally version, better IMHO than the G60 version from the 90's.

@ Kaj45rpm, have you ever seen a Scaleproduction (trans-)kit in reality? no fish-skin, nearly no cleaning, you can nearly start building after opening the box.
Btw, from another company you can get at the moment 7 resin body parts plus 2 clear parts for a MX-5 for ~ 42 Euro + P&P, compared to this the Golf is a real offer

Re: Scale Production Golf II Rallye Review

subject is a little "special" and probably mostly focused on the great interest they have in germany for this car.

The moulding and the casting looks excellent. I've seen the porsche 1973 done my mike. Impressively nice, thin and detailed. a real masterpiece.
Wheels are wonderful, as usual.

thanks

its strange, I've not sold until now the most kits to German customers , just 20% of the orders came from Germany, the rest from all over the world

Re: Scale Production Golf II Rallye Review

You guys are killing me. I want this kit so bad, and the price is great for the subject/quality but it's just out of my budget right now....
voyageur, beautiful build....
MidMazar, great write-up, thank you and I can't wait to see your build.
