Electronic Throttle Control light is On
Lincoln LS 2004 V6 3.0, few days ago engine was stopped in the highway with the Electronic Throttle Control light on. It can start, but stopped immediately; push the gas paddle the engine had no reaction, and then it was towed back to home. This morning reset the pump shut-off switch, it started again, and ran as usual. But it stopped after driving 5 miles, same problem. After wait about 1 hour, I was able to drive it back to home by reset the pump shut-off switch again.
Can someone help me, and tell me how to check the problem? Is it something wrong with the fuel pump? The car has no problem to start, but it stops immediately, it seems no fuel is got into engine. The Fuel tank is half. |

Re: Electronic Throttle Control light is On
Are you certain you're resetting the fuel pump cutoff switch? I haven't had one apart recently, but those used to be inertia switches that require a pretty significant jolt to go open circuit. It should be completely independent of your electronic throttle. If the electronic throttle light is coming on, the car is probably going in to limp home mode (reduced power, rough running, may feel like low on fuel). There have been several others on this forum that have posted about similar things and my recall is in several cases a faulty coil has been the culprit.

Re: Electronic Throttle Control light is On
Shorod,
Today I scaned the car, the error code are P0420 - Catalystic Convert (old code) P2104 - Throttle actuator control system-Forced Idle P2106 - Throttle Actuator Control System - Forced Limited Power P2111 - Throttle Actuator Control System - Stuck Closed P2112 - Throttle actuator control system-stuck open P2135 - Throttle/pedal position sensor-A/B circuit correlation P2104 P2112 P2135 I am not sure if change the ignition coil will fix the problem, but I would try, the car is 107K now. Half year ago I replaced four ignition coils out of six, and will replace other two this . |

Re: Electronic Throttle Control light is On
You need to understand why the engine won't start. For us to help at this point, we're going to need more details. Does the engine crank with the starter but just won't start? Do you have spark? Do you have fuel? Have you confirmed the inertia fuel pump shut off switch is not open? Have you checked all the fuses? What is the battery voltage both with the engine off and what does it drop to when trying to start the engine? When cranking, does the engine sound like it tries to fire?

Re: Electronic Throttle Control light is On
You have six COPs. The problem could be any or all of them. Until you have replaced all of them, then you can't say that the issue isn't really a coil. That said, the early production 04s did get some defective throttle body assemblies. Since yours is jamming closed (that's why it is hard to start), you probably do have a defective throttle body.

Re: Electronic Throttle Control light is On
All sparks are very new, half years ago mechanical technician checked it. After that the car only drove less than 4000 miles. The fuel is half tank, and voltage is enough. Ervery time the car was started first, and then stopped immediately. It sounds like no gas was pummped into engine to keep it running.
