As I may have mentioned before, my next diorama project is quite ambitious.. I would like to do a WRC service station with guys working around the car quickly changing parts under a tent, the center piece will be the rally car (1/24) with doors open and guys under the hood...
Is there a good method to create, or CUT open doors and hoods from an existing static solid body ?(tamiya or Hasigawa- I may go with the Hasegawa)

That would make a great project, i would love to do one myself...

If money was no object u could do the subaru service area and using Tamiya's latest WRC u could add the engine by Studio 27 and include the Scania service truck recently released by Italeri. Renaissance make a range of resin doors for various rally cars so that u can pose them open, although i dont know if the new subaru is included. I think it is also Renaissance that have a service tent too, but far more fun making your own.

TIP: Thin the inside of the body with a Dremel. You can see the how thin it is by holding the body up to the light. Then, cut or scribe the door panel out from the outside. The advantages are the time you save, the edges will have a scale thickness, and there's less chance you'll screw up and slice the body or make a rough cut.

Another technique is to use the thick plastic identification-gun tape as a guide. (you know the stuff that you punch letters into to mark your lunchbox. Its flexible, strong, will stay put and its cheap! You can get rolls of it from stationary stores.

nice that i see you want to made a diorama with guys and materials.... in a box diorama....
Here, you will find some pics of a garage diorama that i made two years ago....
............about 600 hours to do it.... there is all the connected light and some machines are on with a motor....

Anyone notice how impossible it is to find a picture of the Subaru WRC's engine? I am thinking about buying the Studio 27 engine parts, but if I can't find the pics, I have no direction towards painting schemes, and detail. Without pics, I am out of luck buying the engine parts.

*Quick thought; I recall Tommi Makinen having a overheated engine and required to fill it with water from a nearby swimming pool. They filmed the engine as Tommi was filling it up with water....anyone have a picture of that by any chance?
