'95 T-Bird 4.6 V8

I have a '95 Ford Thunderbird LX 4.6L V8 that has been acting up lately. The problem is that when I accelerate normally the car tends to hang or stutter right after dropping into fourth gear. But if I take my foot off the pedal for a second and then accelerate again everything seems to be fine. Around May of this year, my car started doing this and everyone I talked to thought it was the fuel pump gone bad. So I took it in to a mechanic and had the pump replaced and everything seemed to be fine up until around July when it started in again. I've tried the gas treatment bottles, replaced my fuel filter but the problem remains. Not sure if I should just fork out the cash to have it tuned up and hope that solves it or get some more opinions. Just hoping that this is not going to cost an arm or a leg. Any ideas? Thanks

Welcome to the forum MitchP. You should be able to get the codes read at Autozone or other places like them. If the car hasn't had a tuneup in a while it's money well spent. At least check the condition of the spark plugs.

Thanks for the reply 97Bird. I have the next couple days off, going to take it into Autozone and see what shows up. Thanks for the advice.

Check the EGR valve and DPFE sensor. I had the same problem with my 4.6L and is common on the 4.6Ls. Remove the DPFE sensor, smack it in your hand a few times to get the water out, and reinstall, ensuring the hoses are tight and the electrical sensor plugged back in. It should be mounted on the back of the passenger side cylinder head.
