302 in a 62 falcon?

hey. Im going to puchase a fully restored 62 falcon for 3500, my blunder is that the guy dropped in a 91 302, its carbed and has an aftermarket intake manifold; i was wanting to know if that motor make that car run FAST!, like almost scary fast. I was pricing around for a 351C, but it maybe a while to get the money, but tell me that ya'll think of a 302 in a Falcon. thx

Uh... yeah. A modern 5.0 in an old Falcon would definitely be fast. Don't do a 351, the cars are so light they don't need a huge V8.

The US has had Falcons since 1960. A 91 302 is a Mustang 5.0 engine.

I wish we had the new ones you get. Ford should have brought it over to the US instead of coming out with that Five Hundred sedan.

Re: 302 in a 62 falcon?

the 64' falcon resembles my 70' model...but not entirely. I have an "aquaintance" that has a Torino (forget which model) that looks almost EXACTLY like my falcon.....Why would ford make the cars so similiar? Do they look like that in aus?

Yeah, it's fast. I've got a '62 Falcon Ranchero with a 302 in it now, and I got it with a 289 Hi-Po with a C4, and I loved it. I'm getting ready to put in a fuel-injected 5.0 HO and AOD in it.

Re: 302 in a 62 falcon?

xyfalconsrock, the Falcon so far as I know was originally produced in the US. And before it left production here the tooling and equipment used was moved to austrailia.
And for a while they were essentially the same, until the FoMoCo austtrailia beefed it up, and starting using mustang parts and eveentually changed the styling.

Re: 302 in a 62 falcon?

And tHaGuNsLiNgEr, the reason that your 70 looks so much like a torino is that the 70 falcon is in many ways a re-badged torino. This was done to boost sales for that year. This was also the last year of Falcon production in the US. If I'm not mistaken a 302 would have been either standard equipment or a factory option. In the previous year the falcon actually ceased to be it's own line and simply became the lowest price option in the Fairlane line.

i have a 64. to put a 351 in mine it has to be a small block our you will have to cut the engine compartment the 60-63 with the short front end good luck on getting any thing bigger than a 302 in it. but if you need parts take parts of a mustang the ar only two inchs wider and two inchs longer the took the falcon boddy off and put the musang on in stead.
