Popping noise under harsh acceleration
If I quickly step on the gas from a standstill or slow rolling speed in my '94 Cavalier Automatic, it lurches and there is a popping or grinding noise. What could this be caused by? However, if I am traveling at speeds over 20 and step on it, it accelerates smoothly. I'd be glad to answer any other questions that will help someone figure this out.
I was thinking that it was the A/T fluid level being too low, and there not being enough pressure, but when I checked it, it was fine. This car was in an accident, it was side swiped, and that might be adding to the symptoms. The steering pulls to the right. That is all I can think of for right now. Any ideas anyone? |

I'm just guessin!!!
May be that the clutch is fully engaged and your engine speed (RPMs) isn't high enough and you just flood the cylinders and it ignites and kinda grabs but I wouldn't know what exactly the popping noise is, an idea where it's coming from?

dunno, but sounds kinda like the same thing that was wrong with my 90 camaro, got hit in front/passenger side, in order to get going from a stop i had to really gently give it gas or else it would bog down and the rpms would bounce, the car would shake, and go clunk clunk clunk., once i got going a few mph, no problem at all. was just a tranny mount
