Tranny Question
Hey guys. My friend is looking at a 93 Camry V6 LE 107K on it. He said everything was cool except the transmission fluid was brown instead of red. He asked his Uncle if that was really a problem and couldnt he just replace the fluid, but his uncle said on some cars, when the trans. fluid gets old and dirty, you cant replace it because it is all that's holding the engine together.
I told him that I highly doubt that that is the case because of the well known good reputation for reliability that Toyota (and Honda ) engines have. And plus, the car is only 9 years old and well kept according to my friend. he's seen the car, I haven't (he lives in Philly, i live in Chicago) Is there any truth to what his Uncle told him or is he just old and cranky? I told my friend I would use my resources to see what i could find out. I know this is really a general question that relates to al cars, but I figured since its a Camry, i might as well post it here. Thanks. (From the Other Side ) -Accord Boy

If the owner never flushed out the tranny fluid and never changed the tranny filter, then the tranny might have just have given up. I've been told from one person that the auto tranny from the 92-93 V6 isn't that good. As for the tranny fluid, just ask the owner to FLUSH and fill the tranny fluid.
