323i vs 328i
What do u guys suggest...a 323i or a 328i. Is a 323 too slow cuz its only 170hp? Does the 328 have a better edge because its 193hp? I really need some fast answers...thanks to anyone who replies

the only real difference between the two is engine displacement...
obviously ull get a lot more power out of the 2.8

funny, cause I asked the same question about 3 weeks ago and since have bought a 323i.....I LOVE IT..the power is enough and the price was even better...either car is tight, but I saved about $5000 and it accelerates at 7.1sec to 60mph and the 328i accelerates at 6.6...not a big deal...hope that helps...if I can ask what are you looking at and what price I got my 323i with 49K miles for $20000.

The 323i is a 2.5 litre engine, the 328i is a 2.8 litre engine.
I think the 323i engine puts out less power than the 325i engine, even though they are both 2.5 litres. From what I understand the 323i has better economy at the expense of power output. Like Philly_11 said the power is enough. After all 170hp isn't that bad is it? Rossco 1996 E36 320i |

Isn't the 323 a 2.3 litre engine? I was under the impression 3 stood for the series, and the following 2 numbers stood for size. Is this wrong? Sorry if I am wrong. I read it off the net so it very well could be.

Yea, in the earlier cars like the E30 the 323 was a 2.3 litre engine, but in the later engines the 323 has a 2.5 litre engine.
I'm not completely sure when the 323 became a 2.5 litre but my owners handbook (1996 E36 model) lists the 323i with an engine of 2494 cm3, putting out 125 kw (170 hp) at 5500 rpm and 245 Nm of torque at 3950 rpm. I think for a while in the E36 range you could get both a 323i and a 325i, both with 2.5 litre engines, but the 323i had less power output. (but more efficient I think). Cheers Rossco 1996 E36 320i |
