Question about the emergency lights
Whenever I have my emergancy flashers on, whenever I put on the brakes, they quit flashing. They are still on, but they don't flash. What is up with that? (It's not a problem or anything, I just wondered what causes it).

Re: Question about the emergency lights
very normal. all cars, that i know, of do this because the brake light is more of a warning, whereas hazards are more of a yellow light at a stop light.

Re: Question about the emergency lights
hazzards flash to let people know there is something wrong go around, the break light takes over when you want to let people know, hey im slowing down even more, or hey, even though its a red light, my foot is on the break, you might be going slow for whatever reason, but when the hazzards are going, and i see them going at a stop sign i know the person is in park and not on the break, i best go around them

Re: Re: Question about the emergency lights
Actually its because of the wiring. Your brake light bulbs double as turnsignal bulbs. Your turn signals are hooked up to the same circuit as your hazards. Since you dont have separate turn signals when you hit the brakes you complete a shorter circuit with less resistance because the lack of a flasher causing just your brakes to light up. Other trucks for instance the blazers have two sets of lights. Brakes, and then turnsignal, hazards are the second. Those will blink when you hit the brakes. Just the way its wired.

Re: Question about the emergency lights
And with most cars if you test your brake lights with the ignition switch off, but the signal switch on one side that one brake light won't light up.
I found out the hard way, after I switched a bulb for nothing |
