2000 Impala - Airbag dummy light
has anyone else had any problems with the dummy light for the airbag going on and then off... I have seen other write ups on this and it seems to be an error in the cpu and not teh airbag itself.
Can anyone confirm or denie this report? Thanks, Lee |

If the SIR light comes on it stores a diagnostic trouble code to aid in diagnostics. The problem could be anywhere in the SIR circuitry or hardware.
I would recomend you take it to a trustworthy technician and have it looked at.

My does the same thing- it has to do with a connection issue. When I hit a bump it goes on and off. Just bought the factory manuals and will try to trace.I let you know if I find it...please do the same.

My 2000 LS also has this problem. A trip to the dealer ended with a
brake fluid top up. ?????? I was told that the air bag circut is linked with ABS circutry and low fluid level will trigger light. It did fix the problem for a week but its back now, on and off as I remember. And yes fluid level is still up. |

Alex, don't spray anything on the connectors! The type of connectors used on todays cars are referred to as "weatherpack" connectors and if they become contaminated with any substance it means hard times ahead. These connectors are engineered to take as much as 45PSI pressure before allowing external leakage. If anything you may want to have the system scanned. It will cost a few dollars but considering the number of items involved, it's worth it simply from a time/cost benefit. |

Re: 2000 Impala - Airbag dummy light
I had this problem too but they told me that it would cost $400 to fix and I was like whatever and I blew it off but I will try and find my sheet that says what the problem was. I think they were bullshiting me cause I'm a girl, blonde and they thought I was stupid

Re: 2000 Impala - Airbag dummy light
Second time this happened to me. The first time the dealer said it was a connection and fixed it for about two months. Now it's happening again. I'll just have them fix it the next time I have to take it in for something else, notably the recall for the radiator I just received.

Air Bag Ligh
We had this same problem after having to slam on brakes to avoid an accident. After taking it to the dealer (this time they fixed something right on the first try).
Reading the repair paperwork - word for word it says: Problem: Air bag light stays on Comment: SIR SIR REPAIR 294 CC cleared connectors and cleaned RF seat code. The cost of repair was 88.04 Hope this helps. Linda |
