Idle Tracking Switch

I have a 93 Ford Taurus and a diagnostics came back with this issue:
Quote:
ECM reinitialization detected on Cluster Control Assembly (CCA) circuit failure 2.
Idle tracking switch closed on pre-position
I do not know where the idle tracking switch on a taurus is, all I can find when searching online is for other vehicles which is all of course different. Seems like it should be an easy fix though, so any advice or suggestions about how to fix this.

Re: Idle Tracking Switch

Do you have the specific code number that was read out? This pre-dates OBD-II and generic diagnostic codes, so are you sure the tool that read out the code was interpreting correctly for Fords?

Does the car seem to be running fine other than a check engine light?

Re: Idle Tracking Switch

The full readout is:
Quote:
327 Ford OBD1 KOEO 1. (Cars ONLY): ECM reinitialization detected on Cluster Control Assembly (CCA) circuit failure 2. Idle tracking switch closed on pre-position
As far as the vehicle operating, one of the CV joints is going out and I need to replace that. Otherwise I can't notice anything wrong with it.

Re: Idle Tracking Switch

The 300 series diagnostic codes for your car relate to the Aux Emissions Controls. For the 327 diagnostic code, the recommendation is to check the EGR valve operation.

Pasted below is the initial test step for EGR valve operation from the factory service manual.

  1. Install a tachometer, Rotunda 059-00010 or equivalent.
  2. Disconnect the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid (9F715) electrical connector.
  3. Remove and plug the vacuum supply hose from the EGR valve nipple.
  4. Start engine, idle with transmission in NEUTRAL, and observe idle speed. If necessary, adjust idle speed according to «Section 9A».
  5. NOTE: If the engine will not idle with IAC solenoid disconnected, provide an air bypass to the engine by slightly opening the throttle plate or by creating an intake vacuum leak. Do not exceed a typical idle rpm.
  6. Slowly apply 5-10 inches of vacuum to the EGR valve nipple using a hand vacuum pump, Rotunda 021-00014 or equivalent.
  7. Does idle speed drop more than 100 rpm with vacuum applied and return to normal (± 25 rpm) after the vacuum is removed?
Yes
The EGR valve is OK.
UNPLUG and RECONNECT the EGR valve vacuum supply hose.
RECONNECT the IAC solenoid connector.
REFER to Diagnostic Routines, «Section 2A».

No
INSPECT the EGR valve for blockage or contamination.
CLEAN the valve using Rotunda 021-80056 EGR valve cleaner.
INSPECT valve for vacuum leakage.
REPLACE if necessary.
