Replacing Alternator 2006 T & C
Oh Chrysler and its engineers.
Generally a simple job,,,not so. Remove the plastic cover behind right front wheel to access the tension pully to remove the serpentine belt. The alternator has 3 bolts, 15mm wrench. These steps are important; remove the alternator must remove the EGR valve so the alternator can be removed from engine compartment. 1-loosen the serp belt 2-remove the 3 bolts to alt 3-push out of the way slightly 4-remove the EGR valve, 2 10mm socket and pull up and to the right 5-remove the alternator 6-put new alternator close to the old position in engine area 7-here is the part that caused me to double my work, install the EGR before installing the alternator into position. 8-install the alternator 9-put belt back on. To remove the electrical connection at alternator must slide the orange locking clip (bottom side of connector) towards front of vehicle, accessed from bottom with a large flat head screw driver, Dont forget to disconnect the battery. Car is so much quieter now, the alternator bearings were making noise, I put a stethoscope on alt housing and could easily hear bad bearing. |
