Getting new tires, have some questions...

About a month ago, I lowered my 96 civic with tokiko springs and struts (blues). The drop was 1.5 inches and made the overall appearance of the car better. However, since I have 205/40/16 tires on my car, the gap was more than I expected it to be. Would the gap be less noticeable if I purchased some 205/45/16 tires? If so, how much of a difference would it make? Thanks.

I'd say you would change close the gap by about an inch.
You would also change you alignment specs by doing that.

hmm. should cut the gap by an inch huh? That sounds pretty good. I hope my alignment doesnt change too much. I just got an alignment last week (a couple weeks after my drop) and all the specs are fine.

i dont think you'd lose an inch, maybe half an inch at most. your speedo would probably also read a lil slow too by a couple mph or so. but a half inch is fairly noticeable i think.

If you're looking for pics to see what your will look like, forget it. The sidewall height of a 45 sries tire is completely dependent upon overall tire width, and the look and amount of sidewall deflection is somewhat dependent upon rim width relative to tire width.

The only thing I can warn about is possible rubbing. Higher profile means more of the tire will be shoved into the wheel well on tight turns and bumps. If theres any rubbing at all right now, then DONT go with 45 series.

You can easily calculate it yourself. If a tyre says 205/45R16, the 205 is the width in mm (25.4mm = 1inch). The ( sidewall hight) 45 is a % of the width, so 45% from 205. If you calculate this both for the 205/40 and the 205/45 you'll know the difference exactly.

Well the correct size tire for a 16" wheel on a Civic is 205/45x16" anyway.
