95 skylark horn sticks
On my 95 skylark, the horn gradually got to where it would sound by itself for no reason so much that I had to eventually take the fuse out. I need to get this fixed before the car gets a state inspection. What can I do to troubleshoot the problem? I thought about taking the middle cover off of the steering wheel but I don't want to mess up the airbag system. Is there a way that I can bypass the horn switch in the steering wheel? I think the switch may be bad or stuck in the "on" position. Any ideas?
Thanks! |

Re: 95 skylark horn sticks
I'm having the same problem with my 95 Skylark. Just wondering if anyone had ever given any feedback on if it's possible to fix this without messing up the airbag.

Re: 95 skylark horn sticks
Good idea not to mess with the steering wheel. I've heard it's around $2000 to replace the airbag. It's definitely a switch or a bad contact. I didn't have that problem but sometimes I have to hit the horn a few times to get it started, then it works OK.
Other than that, I still have the water leak problem that's plagued these GM cars. That's a $350 repair bill but I had it done and it happened again a while later. Now I cured it by drying out the carpet and stuffing towels between the firewall and the carpet. (there!) |

Re: 95 skylark horn sticks
Hi
I had the same thing wrong with my 1995 skylark. It is in the horn contacks inside the air bag and the airbag has to be changed to correct the problem. went to gm dealer but it was 650.00 dollars for it. i went to ebay and bought one for 25.00 changed it myself. unpluged airbag wire under steering colum. to bolts on back of steering wheel, but be careful when puuling out you have a wire and spring that is easy to breack, then you pull the wheel to fix a 5 dollar part. 95 buick had this problem, i guess alot of miles took a toll on this. my first airbag worked for 30 days. second honked as soon as i hooked it up and the third has been there over a yr. think it cost 10.00 dollars.plus shipping. this was still allot less than a new one. this is my first post hope this helps someone. now i am having trouble with headlights, wont come on and all others are working. if anyone has had that problem i would appreciate any info. Thanks mike |
