'89 240SX clutch question: Please Help!!
hey, all:
I've got an '89 240SX with a burnt clutch. It was slipping like hell when i got it, and i managed to get another 721 miles out of it before it fianally went. Don't ask me how, i guess i just got lucky. Anyhow, i just picked up a new clutch kit today. Nothing special, just OEM specified clutch kit. I'd love a stage 2, but i'm broke as hell. The whole kit only cost me a few bucks over $100. Anyhow, the car is sitting at point A right now. I need to get it to point B (less than a mile down the road) to a friend's garage to get the new clutch in it. My question is this: Is there any way i can get the car to move from point A to point B under its own power?? Yeah, i can tow it with my truck and chain or strap or something, but i heard from somone that although the clutch is hydraulic, and is self-adjusting, there is like this bleeder screw type deal on the slave cylinder that may allow me to adjust the clutch just enough to get it to go in gear, and i could perhaps get it to roll under its own power just down the street. Is there any truth to this? If not, does anyone know of another way i could get it to move just enough to get it down the street? All i know is it's pretty burnt now, i put it in gear, an let up off the clutch, and the car does not move. I can let completely off the cluch, and the engine doesn't even stall out. so it's pretty burnt. I was just wondering if anyone out there knew of a way i could just get it to move on its own, just long enough for a short drive??? Just wondering. I guess i'll pull it if i have to, it's just if there's an alternative way of doing it (under its own power) i'd like to give it a shot. If anyone knows of a way that this can be done, PLEASE let me know. Like i said, if all else fails, i'll pull it. I just don't want to have to do that if there is something that could be done to allow the car to move under its own power. Any input on the matter would be greatly appriciated. Thank you for your time!! |

what i'm saying is, the clutch needs replaced. i've bought a new one, but i have to get the car to my friend's house just down the street to his garage to put in the new clutch. When it comes to moving the car from where it's at to the garage to fix it, is there any way i can get the car there under its own power, as opposed to towing it?

Try it! Get in your car, start it, put it in gear, let the clutch out and see if it'll move, if not, tow the fucking thing!!

Re: '89 240SX clutch question: Please Help!!
skyline316, first of all thats the dumbest ricer name i've ever heard. i hope you dont own a 240. and as for your post, how is 3rd gear gonna get it going if 1st doesn't??? all he wants to do is roll it. dropping a burnt clutch in 3rd is a brutal idea. it'll just slip more and wear out whatever is left of the plate..
moron anyways, try being gentle with the clutch in 1st.. let it out real slow to get the car rolling and let the rpm go up really slow but make sure the car doesn't jerk. switch to 2nd and don't step on the gas. pretend you're a granny on a sunday afternoon with nothing to do and you'll get there
