1974 Chevelle Malibu Coupe
I just came across and am now the owner of a 1974 Chevelle. Original everything, had been parked in a barn since the ladies husband died in 1978. 35k original miles. Title shows 32k. beside some minor repairs to the interior, the body is solid, and just needs to be sanded and painted. With some fresh gas, the engine fired right up, no problems, and sounded new.
Here's my question. My car is the base model 350 2barrel auto. If I alter the car from the base model, but still keep it in line with options they had for it, can I still call it original? I would like to add the 4barrel, with the 4spd manual. But for the sake of my girlfriend driving it at times, the turbo hydrostatic auto is probably what I will go with... still keeping in line with the options. The car currently has a single pipe exhaust, I would like to add a throaty dual exhausts. Also along with being able to call it original, if not will it hurt the overall value of the car to a collector? |

Re: 1974 Chevelle Malibu Coupe
its not really a collectible car yet so might as well alter it to yours tastes. but changing anything on the car it can no longer be called original. also to put a 4 speed in will need to cut a hole in the floor and then it won't be original for sure. you can swap some of the stuff out and just keep the old parts if someone wants to restore it later. you might find the build sheet on the rear or bottom of back seat or if owners have any paperwork be sure to keep it
