Completed - Tamiya Yamaha YZF R1
Just completed, Tamiya Yamaha YZF R1 1/12 scale superbike. Wonderful kit very few fitment issues. Built mostly out of box, drilled the brake discs, applied a few Crazy Modeler heat stain decals to the exhaust, but other then this, built per build guide.
Colour is called Bluish white cocktail 1999 model R1, basically Red /White, with black. Sprayed TS-8, TS-26 and TS-14. Used TS-29 for the wheels. The decals where cleared with Mr Hobby Top Coat Acrylic clear, polished and waxed. All the mechanical parts were sprayed various shades of Alclad II over satin black, with polished metals backed with gloss blacks. The kit was a joy to work with; decals were great, and responded well to setting solutions, oddly until I got to the back exhaust muffler decal. Oddly, it reacted badly, and I’m still trying to get the creases out. Sadly, I was eager to show this one, but the exhaust decal is still drying from a hot wet towel treatment, followed by another coat of micro sol, so creases look even worse then they really are. I’m really mad with that, as all the other decals were fine. I’m hoping when dried, more of the creases will go, it doesn’t look as bad by eye, pictures really pick up on it. Anyhow, enjoy. Fully recommended kit, can’t fault it, other then the radiator fitment, you should look to heat form the hoses to stop the hoses pushing the whole radiator outwards, and the cowling doesn’t fit at the front, thankfully when screwed to the side cowlings, it does with a miracle all straighten back up again. WIP here – http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=572954 WIP Pictures are here http://www.pictureparking.com/show_gallery.php?gid=2797 And more completed pictures here http://www.pictureparking.com/show_gallery.php?gid=2889 Hope you enjoyed it, comments both good and bad welcome, any questions just ask. Edit - can an admin please edit the title? I spelt completed without the "P". Thanks.. |

Re: Completed - Tamiya Yamaha YZF R1
Stunning job!! Heatstaining looks good, superb finish on the paintwork, brakes look excellent all drilled out.Shame about the exhaust decal. Can you not remove it and cut 2 pieces from carbon decal to wrap around if the wrinkles don't dry out? However you should be proud of what you have created,it's an awesome model.Best regards,

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=558290 You must get the Crazy Modeler P/E set. www.hiroboy.com has this is stock, and is worth the asking price. It greatly enhances the kit. Thanks all for the kind comments. The exhaust muffler decal is slowing getting fixed using a microwaved hot towel, and microsol. Slowly the creases are going. Hopefully by morning it will look better. |

Great stuff Mick. Motorbikes seem to be flavour of the day for you at the moment and you are building them very well.
A very realistic looking build and the heat stain decals seem to have worked very well! What's next? |

Re: Completed - Tamiya Yamaha YZF R1
Thanks for the great comments guys.. The CF decal around the exhaust muffler is actually drying down, and the creases are going. Thankfully.
My next project will not be a bike, but will be a CLK GTR Team Sportswear http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...88#post4161988 Thanks all... |

Wow, you've come a long way, mate. Looks stunning. Really, except for the table it's on, it would be hard to tell these from pics of the real thing.
