94 22RE rough acceleration when only when warm and only first 2 or3 gears
This is a 94 pick up 22re around 173,000 miles. Manual trans.
suddenly started to accelerate and drive rough. kind of bucked sometimes similar to water in the fuel but did not seem quit like that. So after a few days I tightened up the belts cause one was squeeling and added techron to the tank and filled up with gas. Soon started to improve but not completely, Take off and the first part of each gear was rough, so I figured dirty injectors was probably it and ran out that tank and did another bottle of cleaner. Got even better but did not go away. It seemed to finaly be running normal then drove it for a longer time and it got rough again. So, I realized the weather got real cold and this was a problem when the engine was warm. This rig gets shorter trips often and I make sure to take it out for a long hot run oftren. It accelerates fine when cold after warming up first and second gear are bad and sometimes third as well, but only initialy at the begining of the shift, after the rpms get up it is fine. It will idle fine and drive down the road fine, just the early accelerating is a problem. The plugs have around 20,000 miles and wires maybe have 80 to 90,000 not sure cause I cant find the record for those. Ok so it ran rough on acceleration and improved with injector cleaner. still does it only when warm. do injectors get affected by warm engine?? What do I need to check?? Re: 94 22RE rough acceleration when only when warm and only first 2 or3 gears
The EFI ECM uses engine temp (coolant temp) among many other things.
So if there was a problem with that signal it could be telling the injectors to provide the wrong amount of fuel for the conditions. Theres also a cold start injector, which might not be operating correctly.

Re: 94 22RE rough acceleration when only when warm and only first 2 or3 gears
Wow three things I did not know
I felt the oxy sensor was a good bet and tested for volts and it did not measure up. Never sure the ground was good for the meter but it gave the same results without a ground contact. .?? Does that make sense.? I replaced it, the old one looked pretty crusty. there is improvement but with three short drives it still has issues. Take off from stop is bad. I think there is a sort of break in period for the modual to sinc with the new info from the oxy sensor, so am still hopefull. Not as much now tho with the new info you gave. LOL if no improvement today I will have to look up how to test for those things. Otherwise my next was the MAF. Thanks for the help |

Re: 94 22RE rough acceleration when only when warm and only first 2 or3 gears
Ok. Well it starts fine always and runs fine nearly always when it is cold. Only after it warms up does it act up and then just the initial acceleration, get the rs up a smidge it jumps and accelerates fine again until next shift.
Since puting in the new O2 sensor it boggs down severly afer 55 cant get it much over 60 so just back off and it drives fine. the accelerate issue of course. So with that I dont suspect the cold start injector, did not know it had one. the ecm could be the culprit, had fears of it all along but hoped it isnt. iT Seems to be a bit better but still has issues so maybe it is not better at all. how long should it take to break in? Can you test the ECM? |
