Grand AM GT Vrs Nissan Spec V???

Hey, I was looking for info on a friends 85 Nissan Sentra, and I came accross someone bragging about their 02 Nissan Spec V. It showed he beat a Mustang GT. Also a Gran Am, but didn't specify GT. I looked online at spec's for the Nissan, and it was way lower than my GA GT. Is it really that fast? Has anyone with a GA GT ever beat one of these Nissan Spec V's? Maybe he just has a lot of mods?
I'm waiting for my small upgrade for my 2002 GA GT.

Re: Grand AM GT Vrs Nissan Spec V???

i hope you didnt buy that useless peice of plastic.

But on to the spec V, they have 175HP and the tq is something close to the hp rating, they have a 6speed manual, and run in the low 15s high 14s stock, with some mods they will run in the 14s for sure. the 94-98 mustang GT runs a low 15 stock, so i would think his car could take the mustang. also the grand am gt (99+ that is) runs a mid to low 15 so once agian it would have no problem taking it

Your saying my 02 GA GT is useless? I like it. It's quicker and faster than the 2000 Dodge Stratus, 2.5L 165 hp, that I traded in. Doesn't quite get the gas milage though.
Or are you talking about the tri-phase module? Does it not work?

Yes, its a useless black box, it will make your car run rich/lean which is always not good for performance, and you might get a max of 2hp out of it. you should have got a cold air intake or something else.

It already has the Ram Air for the extra 5 hp. Can't afford a Jet Chip @ this time.

Re: Grand AM GT Vrs Nissan Spec V???

the jet chip is trash too, all that stuff is garbage. you would be better off with the CAI, that ram air set up has so many twists and turns in it that it really isnt effective, you want something that has hardly any bends in it and something that will let the air flow into the engine better like a CAI

Re: Grand AM GT Vrs Nissan Spec V???

I read on another string somewhere about someone making their own CAI out of PVC and some type of flex pipe for the bends. I'll have to try something like that. Will a tornado work for something like my car? Wouldn't the screen on the MAF straiten the air flow out and counter act the tornado? I have a tornado from my other car I traded in.

Re: Grand AM GT Vrs Nissan Spec V???

I bought a chip from delco , it didnt increase the horsepower much but it did change the shift points and removed the top speed limiter. I also use a jet power controll module for firmer shifts and it creates what i call an artifical stall of 1200 rpms with the brakes on full in drive so you dont get that lull at the start of full excelleration. But i think im getting some negative effects like phantom throttle controll so be aware that when you play with computer controlled modifications you may have some trouble shooting to get it to work properly.

Re: Grand AM GT Vrs Nissan Spec V???

Get a vortech super charger.. best way to go, but first install an lsd so you have traction.. at 6 psi i remember this one kid running low 14's.. My mom has a 2001 GT 4 door with ram air... I hear the gt's run around 15.4-15.6.. I personally did 122mph in her car just for the hell of it.. it stays pegged at 122 and will not got any faster.. I think its drag limited to that so the governor remover really won't help until you get more power.. So like i said, vortech super charger.. check out RSM racing.. they sell and install them...

Re: Grand AM GT Vrs Nissan Spec V???

oh, and yea spec V's are a little faster.. stock they run 15.2-15.4.. they really don't have good after market support.. theres only a couple things you can do to them so they are limited..

Re: Grand AM GT Vrs Nissan Spec V???

I read that if you pute a supercharger on something, your going to need to do something to reduce the compession ratio or you can blow up your engine. I read on another forum link that someone pute the 3800 supercharger on their 3400, but it didn't last very long. They did have to modify the lower manifold to get it to fit though. Damn the limiters, 122 mph isn't fast enough. I hear the Jet Chip by passes the limiter.
Trying to translate the 247 kph, looks to be about 153 mph. I'm not 100% sure, but that's about what it looks to be when my speedo gos up to 150 mph, and just below that is 240 kph. (about 148-9 mph)

Re: Grand AM GT Vrs Nissan Spec V???

The engine compression is too high , could handle a low boost turbo and learn from my mistake last time and get a new chip to accept the changes in engine behaviour so it dont go wonky like it did a few times i tried giving it some heavy throttle. The power it had at mid rpms made the motor sound like it was rattling at times and couldnt handle it. I am very lucky i didnt screw it up.

Re: Grand AM GT Vrs Nissan Spec V???

The Jet module doesnt change my limitors , the delco chip does. first gear hits 6300rmps at 87kmph.
second hits 142kmph , third around 200kmph i only hit 247 in fourth when i got clocked. My speedo only goes to 220kmph so i had no clue other than the engine kept kreeping up the rpms on the guage , it was around 5100 before we slowed down.
