What car to buy from newbi
My truck is almost paid for and I'll be looking for a used car that I can hop up. Looking for a 4 door.
What year is the best? What should I look for? etc etc. I'll be spending around $12,000 for the car. Tifford |

Re: What car to buy from newbi
Look for 99+ GTPs
Make sure the car has HUD (heads up display). It is a great feature on these cars. GTP motor code = L67 GTP trans code = 4t65e-HD Make sure and test drive the car and make sure the trans is shifting nice and smooth. Also, use all the setting for the climate control, making sure there are no strange noises and that all the speeds work. Check the trunk for water damage, pull the spare out and check for sitting water. |

Re: What car to buy from newbi
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm cutting and pasting your response to microsoft word.
Plans for hoping up: Not entirely sure yet. I heard a smaller pully on the charger will help. I would like to beat your average accord/altima/(300 bmw series) at any speed if need be. 260 to 290 HP would be nice to shoot for. I'll hop up as money is freed up. I'm building a kit car right now and I need something to drive around town that still has a sporty feel. I'm keeping the truck (99 chevy 5.3L 4.10 rear end)to pull the boat. It has too many miles to trade in. Thanks again for the quick reply. Tifford |

Re: What car to buy from newbi
No problem.
W/ a 3.4 pulley (stock is 3.8) intake and exhuast plus cutout I was able to run 13.8s. If your shooting for 290 at the wheels then Its going to cost. My last dyno was 291 at the wheels, so click my sig pic and you can see some of the mods that are needed. Another great resource for you to try is www.clubgp.com Its the largest GP forum out there. You'll also be able to find out if there is a local club in your area. Local clubs are great for helping in getting mods installed. Plus, since you already have the truck that is a great tow vehicle for the GP Trust me if your shooting for 12's or low 13's your going to break some stuff. Mainly transmissions. Try clubgp and run a search for what to look for when buying a used GP, also there are many cars for sale that might already be moded and in your price range. |

Re: What car to buy from newbi
13.8 sounds very nice to me. All of the comfort of your living room too!!!! It will be nice to surprise some cars out there.
The way I see it, there are just too many positives for going with a slightly used pontiac. Comfort, power, available mods, roomy, reliable (depending on mods), tons of them made, price etc etc. I also believe the engines will be around for long time. Thanks for the web site. I'll check it out tomorrow. Tifford |
