93 Tempo spark plugs seized
My wifes Tempo's plugs are seized into the head & I am afraid something bad is going to happen if I try to force them out.I've heard of this happening but have never run into it before, any suggestions on how to remove the plugs? without removing the head!!!

Re: 93 Tempo spark plugs seized
I was able to remove 2 of the4 so far by soaking them & using an impact with very quick short burst to get penetrating fluid into threads easier still cant get last 2 out but hopefully soon, atleast by Mon.

Re: 93 Tempo spark plugs seized
You are on the right track. An impact will loosen the plug without stripping the threads. Penetrating oil is good, too. As, you know, putting a socket on it and adding torque will strip the threads. Impact--Excellent.

Re: 93 Tempo spark plugs seized
Either Chevy or Ford has a service bulletin I was reading in Popular Mechanics today. It says to soak with carb. cleaner and move back and forth. I think your 3/8 inch drive impact will do this. I do think carb cleaner will soak around the threads easier.

Re: 93 Tempo spark plugs seized
I hated changing the sp[ark plugs when I owned my mercury topaz, mainly because the last one behind the alternator was a pain in the butt for me.
but yeah, next time this happens, grab a stiff brush, scrape as much corrosion as you can off them, then use something like WD-40 to do the rest. |
