Del Sol with 2000 civic front end
How big of a deal is it to put the 2000 civic front end on a del sol? I'm selling my BMW convertible and plan on using the cash to make a custom del sol.
It looks like most of the swap is no big deal but I was wondering if you needed a different headlight housing for the civic headlights. If anybody has any other ideas let me know.

Sorry about the signature it will soon be gone because that car was destroyed by an 18 wheeler.
The BMW is a 1996 325i convertible with 80,000 it will be placed on ebay within the month. I'm selling it because I promised to buy my girlfriend a new car. |

yeah it can be done, and it's been done a couple of times. I have yet to see it look good, though. The sol with any other car's front end just looks... odd. It totally loses the "sol-ness" of it. Just do a projector mock up and call it a day

Re: Del Sol with 2000 civic front end
I don't want a mock up I want a show car and I'm going to pour as much money and as much sweat into this project until I make something that is nothing short of jaw dropping.
In other words I want to be able to pull up beside a WS6 trans am and be competion atleast in the looks category. Yes, I know it can be done because I was going to buy a del sol that already had the conversion but I want to know what lines up and bolts directly and what does not. |

Re: Del Sol with 2000 civic front end
depending on who you ask, a bone stock sol beats the trans am in the beauty contest
Speaking as someone who has built my own show car before, and has helped with building a LOT of others, let me give you a piece of advice. Money =/= hot ride. I have seen cars with $5000 in them looking and running better than cars with $15000 in them. It's about doing tasteful modifications with the money you have. if you want jaw dropping, I would look at things that are less common than the ek front. Personally, the only headlight conversion I like on a sol is the S15 conversion, because I think it looks.. just... mean. Go for something that's not seen all the time. That's what judges look for, that's what makes jaws drop. And when I said projector mock up, I meant make them. There's a company out of egypt that makes the headlight lenses with no fluting on them (no lines or bumps). Then you get the Hella Bi-Xenon projectors and have at it. http://www.superhonda.com/forum/show...hreadid=145997 ^^ that link for info and pics. Just keep in mind that while a large part of show cars is money, it's not all about it. Don't spend $6000 covering an ok paint job with a crazy one if your car is slow, know what I mean? |

Re: Del Sol with 2000 civic front end
If you're set on any front-end conversion like the Civic, you basically need just a few things.
From the front you want: Headlights Bumper Hood Radiator Support - need to remove old one and weld this on in it's place. Fenders -- have to cut both fenders and weld front fender from new front to back section of old fender. This will keep the lines of the old fender while allowing fitment of new headlights in the front.

Re: Del Sol with 2000 civic front end
I'm not a stranger to building show cars my experience has been mostly with classic muscle(mustangs and chargers). As far as paint no problem I'm doing it myself.
My last classic project was a 1969 Mach 1 mustang with a smooth candyapple red paint job. The del sol will be my first import attempt. The original plan was for my BMW convertible to become a show car. Visual mods were no problem but performance was going to kill the pocketbook. As for something new I have found a body kit from the UK that is unreal. Now my problem is getting it shipped and paid for. By the way I'm a speed freak I can't drive a slow car so this sol will scream when I'm finished. I always push a car to its limit. The silver pontiac you see pictured was totalled when it swapped ends on I 95 slammed into a guard rail and the rear ripped off it when it slid under the trailer of an 18 wheeler. The del sol pictured has to be one of the best looking I have ever seen. Thanks for the advice.
