changing the coils

Our ford escape was really missing bad so my hubby took it and had it put on a computer......It said the #1 Cylinder coil was bad and need to be changed... where is the location of this cylinder? BTW its a 02 ford escape.

I now it on the back of the motor by the firewall. I think number one cylinder is the one in the far left.

No. 1 is the furthest one foward. In this case passenger's side, towards the firewall. (Like Scotty indicated.)
