Sure if you are driving around not getting on it at all then sure you might have cooler air But if you are on it (witch is the point of having the upgrades IMO) The turbo is going to be hot like polly said around 1000°.. 10° cooler air is not going to make a differance..

Re: hey im new

this is all i've gotta say/ask. how did we go from hey i'm new to talking about turbo's and ram airs?

btw the 300zx had a limited ram air intake on the turbos, added 20hp...i think. i know they had ram air, not sure of the power it added

well you all were talking about cold air intakes, and i was curious about the ram air. i was wondering why people say they have ram air with the box.. to me it would make the most sense to get like a cone filter and run tubing from somewhere into the filter. not the box.

so, i guess it's a little off topic, yet still pertains to the "air intake" subject started on page 5.

no, not really a specific temperature you wanna be at...just 'the colder the better'.

if you were to Dyno a car 100*, then Dyno it at 60*, the 60* dyno will show a power increase. (all other things staying the same).

colder air is denser, meaning you can fit more air into a cylinder, meaning the ECU will give give more fuel to the cylinder, meaning more power.

thats the basic idea of a CAI. It tries to intake air from outside (~80*) instead of the air in the engine compartment (~160*)
(temps just for the sake or argument)

(this is also why there are systems that spray cold water on the intercooler, and part of the reason nitrous oxide adds power)

lol k i got it. how do you know if a mod is worth it? or how do you measure if its going to be worth it? for example you guys are talking about an intake, what makes the intake worth getting? if it makes is 10 degrees cooler is it worth getting or if it makes it 60 degrees cooler is it worth it? wheres the line? im sure a lot of it is personal preference tho

Re: hey im new

well, you just want it to flow as freely as possible and try to take air from outside rather than the engine bay. Thats the idea of this

it kind of walls off the hot air from the engine bay.

as far as being 'worth it' or not...i guess that depends on your budget and mod level.

Yeah, for $90 you might be able to gain 8-10HP from that and a K&N. I planned on buying one.

Re: hey im new

you could probably net the same thing with an ebay intake and a bent piece of aluminum...just may not look as nice.

if you want the measurements of that air box let me know. If i could do it all over again i would definitely buy the FIPK, but make my own air box and cut out a sweet mitsu emblem in the top where the plexi is.

like my zip-tie holding my MAS harness in? lol...stupid broken clip...
