Frame rust

I noticed a portion forward part of the frame on my '96 Ram 1500 is rusted completely through. It's located on the bottom part of the bends, just to the rear of the front bumper attachment point. The top portion is solid, but the bottom I can crumple in my hand. Is it repairable? Or is it time to junk the truck? It's got 220,000 mile on it - still runs good - just rough paint and now the rust.

Re: Frame rust

You might take it to a frame shop or even a race chassis shop.

Re: Frame rust

Unless you really know how to weld you might take Chris' suggestion and take it to a frame shop to see if they can reinforce or replace the rusted section. Once you've fixed the structural problem you'll still need to address the remaining rust. The best way I know to restore your chassis is with the Master Series Chassis Kit. You can treat your entire frame for about $65. Check it out at NOMORERUST.COM. You can also call them for advice. They are very knowledgeable and eager to help.
