Gapped plugs wrong...big deal?

Gapped the plugs on a 87 f350 / 460ci wrong. I gapped them to .035 when they should be .044. Should I pull them all and re-gap? Started it up after doing the plugs and it seems to run fine.

it should be fine. newer ignition systems have something like 300,000 volts, so you can go about 100,000 miles between tune-ups, so it should be fine

Re: Gapped plugs wrong...big deal?

I aggree with that but mine are gapped too SMALL, so there will be less spark...possibly not burning all the fuel in the coffee can sized cylenders of the 460 motor.

The 460 has enough power, that the average driver wouldnt see the slight difference in performance. If you did a comparison test, with the plugs gapped correctly, you`d see the difference. 460s dont get great fuel mileage to start with, so youll be money ahead to regap them correctly, for best performance.

Re: Gapped plugs wrong...big deal?

I would personally regap them. I have heard that too small of a gap can cause spark knock on some engines. However there are many people that actually believe they do not need to gap new plugs because they are "pregapped". I have seen spark plugs that all came with the correct gap, and I have seen them all come with the wrong gap. Personally I think it is too easy and simple to make sure the spark plug gap is correct to not do it. This may be why I would pull the plugs and regap to make sure. Odds are they would be just fine as they are. But I would rather be sure

I would just leave them, unless you really feel like re-gapping them. or if your fuel milage takes a big hit. (as if it gets good milage anyways). but it is all up to you.
