help needed with engine timing 1.4energy

for some reason the cam belt tensioner disintegrated the other day. I have replaced the cambelt and tensioner as follows.

mark on crankshaft sproket at bottom - No.1 piston at TDC
mark on camshaft sproket at top - rotor at No.1
fit cambelt and belt markings fit to sproket marks ok.
fit and adjust tensioner.

engine will turn over fine but does not even try to start (as if way out of timing). Distributor not been touched. Have checked spark and fuel both ok. Before breakdown engine started first time.

Have I done something wrong ?
anyone help please as I need car back on road quickly.

check the compressions-probably hit and bent the valves.
