Z Car Question.
Hey Everybody, noob here
I have a black 1976 280z 5 spd manual, straight body, no dents or rust at all which I am thinking about restoring but before I do so, I want to clear up a question which has arisen in my mind that may torpedo my plans. This is my question, before I bought the car in 96, someone had an aftermarket sunroof (the cheap kind which you pull out) installed in it. If this wasn't bad enough, it also leaks. I'm pretty certain it's aftermarket because I don't believe Datsun/Nissan was installing factory sunroofs in 1976. Is this correct? Also, if it is an aftermarket sunroof, doesn't that diminish the car's value significantly? If it does, I don't see any reason in investing thousands of dollars to restore it. Thank you for your advice!! Scott |

Re: Z Car Question.
It could be aftermarket, but 280z's could have sunroof's, a leaking sunroof just needs a new seal, happened like 3 times in my old caddy seville. If it was after market the the value would be deminished because it didn't come with the car... the thing that will determine how much value was lost is how much damage has been caused by the leaking, and if it was after market, how shitily it was installed...

I'd stick with the Z, you'd get more for your money's worth restoring that, unless the 911 was in great condition to begin with, because im pretty sure any part that says porche on it is gonna be expensive as hell.

Re: Z Car Question.
the Z is definitely worth investing money in... it's a timeless car that will never lose value or the love of z enthusiasts everywhere.
depending on what route you go, 20k could get you a great looking show car with everything redone and really nice paint... etc etc. or it could get you a 1khp monster, whichever you want...

Re: Z Car Question.
I had a flame red metallic 1976 280 Z that I customized. I added a sunroof (yes the pull out type) aftermarket. I also added vented louvers in the rear and a front air dam with fog lights. It also had a beige cord interior and the driver seat was slightly raised because I'm a tiny mighty girl. I LOVED this car. Had to sell it when it was costing me too much to fix it. I'd buy it back in heartbeat even with a leaky roof. I've searched everywhere for this car. Saw it once tried to catch the guy (yah like that's gonna happen in a minivan, oooo don't ask) anyway the answer is yes! Go ahead and fix her up I'd buy her.

Re: Z Car Question.
Adding a intercooler helps cool the compressed hot air .. Blow offs just make a noise.. To increase your boost you'll need to add a Boost Controller.
But, that's the best way to hear BOOM if you don't know what your doing |

Re: Z Car Question.
inter cooler will lower the boost depending where the wastegate is hooked up. It depends on the IC to how much you lose.
To increase boost, you will need to remove the POV, add a BOV and boost controller. Dont increase it unless you know what your doing.

Re: Z Car Question.
Contrary you don't need a BOV to increase your boost.. The recirculation valves work great unless you're running really high HP.. I run recirculation valves on a stage XII car over 650rwhp ..
