Angry codes p0138 and p0141 hellllllllllllppppppp

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum. but I've been reading for a while.
I have a jeep cherokee 1999 which unfortunately got hit in the front.
Fixed up almost every thing but the check engine light keeps coming on with codes P0138 AND P0141(autozone) I stupidly changed the oxygen sensors and the cat converter but the light came back on. Now the local Jeep dealer said I need to replace the exhaust manifold but my local mechanic listened to the engine run and said he doubts there is a crack in the manifold also there is some black deposits on the tail pipe what does that mean, I am getting frustrated so please come to my rescue anybody please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the compleat list. Print it out for your records. Perhaps your Cat Converter got damaged or you have a wireing problem going to the O2 sensor. If the exhaust manifold has even the slightest crack or gasket leak at the head or the flange you will get this code. A malfunctioning EGR valve that sticks open for even one second after de-celeration will cause a lean condition and through the O2 sensor off and regester this code.

It sounds to me that you have a wireing problem. Have a technician attach a "simulator" to the O2 sensor wireing and see if the code is still regestered. If thats the case then you have a wireing problem.

Question Re: check engine codes

I have a P1494, leak detection pump sw or Mechanical fault.
description from the book: Leak detection pump switch does not respond to input.

Questions:
1. Does the evap soliniod control the leak detection Pump?
2. Does the the leak detection Pump have an eletrical switch that is
seperate or is that one unit?
I don't see wires to the pump. It looks like a vacum diaphram.

Thank you in advance, this is an awsome site. I never would of found the relay for the radiator fans without the help of this site.

Re: check engine codes

Can anyone shed some insight on codes P1494 (Leak detection pump) and P1756? Are these easy to pinpoint and correct or would I need a mechanic to do a process of elimination? Thanks for any advice!
