To people who actually own a Viper
Would any of you happen to know how far you can push a bone stock Viper in a 1/4 mile? I've never seen one do it but supposedly people are getting Z06's Vettes as far as high 11's and low 12's with 405 hp, completely stock. Maybe when they mean "stock" they take out the stereo equipment and AC I don't really know.
It just keeps me in disbelief because supposedly stock Vipers are like mid 12's right? Can it be pushed further then that? |

Well, I do not own one, but my father does. He had a 01 Zo6 and now has an 01 GTS coupe...granted the 02 Zo6 is another ball game, but the Viper is a whole lot faster than the Vette and kicks you in the pants harder on take off. Granted again I have not had them on the track, but on the street just mucking about the Viper is the killer of the two. This is not a slam on the Vette either, it was one fine machine also.

I have NEVER seen proof of a bone stock Z06 running 11's. Whoever told you this is probably full of poop. The best that I have ever heard a bone stock Z run is low 12's. As for the Vipers, I have seen moderately modified Snakes that couldn't break 13 to save their lives. It was not the car's fault. You can place all of the blame on the idiot behind the wheel and their lack of driving skill. I know of someone who consistantly turns 11.7's (with a best of 11.55) on a bone stock Viper. In the hands of a decently skilled driver, they can turn 12 flats without a problem (obviously depending on weather conditions this can vary). One of the main reasons the Z06's can turn decent times is because they are running 3.45 gears and a useless 1st gear. On the other hand, Vipers run 3.07 gears that are very long (1st gear hits about 60 mph, 2nd hits 80+). I hope that clarifies things for you. Brad PS: By the way, I do own a '96 GTS Coupe. |

I'll never find the website again to save my life but there was this one site that had like 4 or 5 people with 02 Z06 owners, posting times of 11.9 bone stock. Now bone stock they probably have there AC, Stereo, and spare tire off.
Even with a 45 hp and 90 lbs torque advantage I could see why a Z06 might be able to hang with a Viper. Z06 is like what 300, 400 pounds lighter, better gear ratio, better power to weight, and a much better compression ratio then the Viper. But I just think even with that its hard to believe it can run a 11.9. Maybe with 4.56 gears or something but if it has 3.45 gears like you say, man no way. |

I found this site, and it's a little hard to decipher.
http://204.0.73.225/Godspeed/Lists/C5%20Lists2.htm It's a list of C5 Vettes and their times with Engine, Transmission, Poweradders, Tires and Tuners all listed. I don't know what the criteria is for getting on the list, or if no "Tuner" means stock (I'll bet it doesn't...). And of course this isn't "proof." |

Best I have ever seen in an actual test is by popular mechanics mag.
They did 11.97 stock gts. So, yes, if a car mag can do it. A good driver in his/her own car can do high 11's stock. http://popularmechanics.com/automoti...rs/print.phtml]Popular Mechanics review[/url] |

yeaah
Well an ACR isn't exactly a stock Viper but it is close though...
11.8 can you imagine what that new one should do? I bet that sucker can get an 11.6, maybe 11.5. That would be sick.

I just can't wait till the coupe form of the new Vipers come out. And if they have the ACR option on them, can you say.....QUICK!!!!:sun:
I hope ther is at least a 0-60 in the mid 3's and 1/4 mile in the mid 11's. Btw, have you seen the stats for the Hennessy 1000TT, he still amazes me with his cars. |

Some of those times don't seem right at all.
Cobra beating a Trans Am? This isn't an 03, heck it isn't even the latest style of both cars, not happening. 74 Trans Am, 290 hp, more like 225. 1/4 mile time would probably be slower. Chevelle 454 with 4.10's running 13's. With a 4.10 gear ratio that car would run with the Viper, maybe beat it maybe not. Hemi Barracuda only going a tenth of a second smaller then the Cobra Jet Mach I, I don't see how thats possible even with the Mach I having a better gear ratio. Barracuda has way more power and torque.
