1999 Alero Keyless Remote

Hello. I noticed you posted your message back in August 2002, but got no responses.

Did you ever find the answer to how you program a transmitter to a 1999 Olds Alero? If so, can you please give me a clue on where to begin? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hope to hear from you.

Jim

Well unfortunatly with most Olds Products you have to have a scan tool to program the transmitters. I will post the method anyway. You will have to take it to a dealer and spend probably around 50 bucks.

Transmitter Programming

A remote door lock receiver may have up to 4 different transmitters programmed. You may program a transmitter to more than 1 vehicle providing the remote keyless entry systems are similar. When reprogramming 1 transmitter, reprogram any and all other transmitters (maximum of 4 total per receiver) at the same time in order for the other transmitters to work.

Important
Leave a window down in the vehicle while reprogramming the remote control door lock receiver system. This procedure will avoid an unintentional lock out if the reprogramming is not performed properly.

Turn off the ignition.
Utilize a Tech 2 to program the remote door lock receiver.
Enter diagnostics (F0).
Enter body (F1); select the year (X) and body style (N).
Select "Remote Function Actuation" (F3).
Select "Special Functions" (F2).
Select "Program Transmitters" (F0).
Select the number of transmitters to program (1-4)
Follow the on-screen instructions; press continue, wait for the locks to cycle, hold the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 15-30 seconds, the locks will cycle again.
Exit the vehicle. Attempt to lock/unlock the doors to verify the programming.
Perform the following steps if the above procedure does not program the transmitter.
Reconnect the Tech 2.
Enter service programming (F1).
Press the "REQUEST INFO" key.
Select "Reprogram Existing Module"
Exit the vehicle and remove the Tech 2.
Follow the existing procedure to reflash the body control module.

Unhappy 2001 Alero Keyless entry

What! To program these fobs a scan tool is required. I guess at $35, my dealer is cheap. My daughter lost her fob and we ordered two new ones. Now, another $35 to put into it to program these. Her car is a 2001 Alero.

Thanks,

Mike

Angry More help please!!!

John or anyone else: Can you please help me?? I need to program a remote keyless entry transmitter I got so that it will work with my 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. How do I do that? John could you maybe put your instructions into more simpler terms so I could understand them? Also, do I have to get a special tool to program it?? If so where could I get one.. I tried the steps someone posted on this board about how to program a 2000 Alero, but I'm not sure where to go from there.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry the process to do it requires that every step be taken as stated in one of my above post.

Yes you will need a tech2 or a obdII Scanner, these start at about 300.00 for a good one and usually requires additional software updates.

Never try a procedure that is not intended for your vehicle, serious damage to the electrical and computer system could occur.

Sorry but this one you will have to have programmed at the dealer.

Programming Alero Key Fobs

I just purchased a 2000 Alero and it only came with one programmed key fob. The dealer did give me another one from his excess pile but told me I'd have to take it to an Olds dealer for programming. However, I did some research and found a simple procress to program that doesn't even require a paper clip.

1. From the drivers seat ensure all four doors are closed and hold down the door lock switch to the unlock position. Hold it down while you insert the ignition key twice and the third time leave the key in.

2. Release the unlock switch. You will hear three tones. Immediatelly hold down both the lock and unlock buttons on your fob. Hold them down until you hear two beeps. It may take a few moments. Do this with each of your fobs. I did it with two. I understand you can program up to four.

3. Remove key from ignition
