Any idea of some good aftermarket pistons and cam for a 620 engine. websites would be nice. Im starting to research them now. Dont want stock pistons but i dont want $1000 pistons either i have a buget that im working with.. Also with new pistons and cam do i need different valves? or do i adjust? or what?

Re: pistons, valves and cam
with the rarity of our vehicles finding sites dedicated to the sale of datsun parts (or that even carry them) is difficult. ebay is your friend, rare parts come and go on there just keep checking often.
i searched ebay for "datsun camshaft" and this came up, its for an L-series motor. nothing came up for "datsun L20b pistons" though. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsu...spagenameZWDVW there is a shop in fremont that specializes in datsun 510s, he will have or be able to get the pistons (or valves or cam), but he is really expensive. i would reccomend him as a final resort if you can't get the parts anywhere else. here is a link to troy ermish's 510 parts outlet- http://www.ermish-racing.com/510parts/partshom.htm there is a really good book about modding the L-engine (pretty easily available through amazon or overstock.com), it has a parts suppliers list and part number lists as well as many other helpful bits of info. it looks like this- http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merch...tegory_Code=TB there is a companion book about rebuilding the L- motor, it looks like this- http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merch...tegory_Code=TB i have both books, huge ammount of info and pictures in both books, i highly reccomend them. don't get them through the site i linked you to, you could probably get them cheaper on overstock.com. if your local nissan dealer is REALLY cool (like mine!) you could order nismo parts from them if you had the part numbers. the dimequarterly is a datsun 510 site with lots of tech info as well as the best datsun classified section i know of, take a look you might get lucky. or post in the parts wanted, again you might get lucky. link to dimequarterly- http://www.dimequarterly.tierranet.com/ that is all i can think of off the top of my head, i'll look around a bit for you and post back later. if your valves are in good condition, you don't need to buy new ones just because you are buying a new cam or pistons or both. if you remove and install any cam, new or old, you need to adjust the valves. if you don't you could have big problems. usually if you get a new cam you need to get new rocker arms to go with it, the surfaces become wear matched. if you instal a new cam with old rockers it could lead to premature cam wear. |
