transmission on 96 jimmy v-6 4 wheel

my jimmy will only creep in first gear or doesn't go at all. Goes in reverse fine. SOmeone told me that the celanoid could be bad. Does any know

tranny discs are worn out. you have to rebuild it.-

That could be the case ...or the rust that is on your dipstick has finally reached the far ends of your trany and done its job. The mid to late 90's gmc's like this one have problems with the dipstick rusting and dropping off some fun thoughout. The remanufactured one are no better at sealing. Flush the trany, replace the filter and try that before going to rebuild .....it saved me time with my 97 blazer and I change the filter and fluid every 5000.
