Mini me hatch?

OKay my engine in my 96 cx hatch has like no horsepower but decent torque (like 91 lbs at 2,000 rpm good for a honda). I've been contemplating my engine swap choices and settled on a b18c over the b20b but this like next year because of funds. In the meanwhile I was thinking about getting a civic ex's sohc vtec head and putting it on my cx's non vtec sohc block. I would only need the vtec ecu, the head, and anything else? The numbers should be a little higher then a normal ex's due to good torque on the cx's engine right. Any advice?
