Re: What Rear End To Go With ...???

i think he was referring to carrier, rather than gear ratio.

depends on how much you want to spend on it. cheapest way is to get a posi/lsd carrier from a 4th gen, and make sure you get the right series for your gearset, which is a 3 series iirc.

if you want to spend some money on it, get either a 12-bolt or a ford 9"

I would get a new ring and pinion set while you're tearing into it. Just a thought.

Re: What Rear End To Go With ...???

switching out the carrier and gearset IS cheaper than the whole rearend. from what i've read, the weakness is in the ring gear, so if you get a 2 series carrier and say a richmond 3.73 gear set for a 2 series carrier, you will get a ring gear that is twice as thick, and imo, that will be a lot stronger.

Re: What Rear End To Go With ...???

i just thought of something, you said you have 3.27 gears. are you sure of this? If so, then you have the somewhat rare 9 bolt rear end.

The 9 bolt is known to be stronger than the 10 bolt that most 3rd gens have. It will be very difficult, if not expensive to find a new carrier that will fit. You just may have to replace the entire rear axle assembly.
