Poor Gas Milage
Hello Everyone,
Has any one else noticed that their Mazda 6i is getting horrible gas milage for a 4 cyclinder. The tank size is 16 gallons and I am lucky to get 320 miles to the tank. In Winter its even worse, I dont ever get 300 miles a tank most of the time its like 260 - 280. I change my oil and air filter regularly and recently had a fuel system service. Anyway, if there is something I am missing here I would like a heads up. Thanks! |

Re: Poor Gas Milage
How is it idling ? shaking ? backfires ? smooth like silk when running ? Any check engine lights ?
First thing you can do is go to just about any autoparts store and ask them for a FREE OBD2 scan ( Mostly Autozone I think ? ) and see if there are any hidden codes not setting off the CEL. If there are - theres your problem. Also look into swapping out your spark plugs and check your exhaust system for remnants of unburnt fuel. These cars have insane amounts of CODES but not everything throws one. Good luck

Re: Poor Gas Milage
Well, if I am not mistaken, the 2.3 4 cylinder model has a 18 gallon tank. They are suppose to get 23-26 mpg in the city. My friend has one... umm.. check tire pressure water in fuel tank.. get a good fuel injector cleaner. oil changed. get good oil.. run with compressor on much? (a/c, defroster) dirty air filter.. bad maf sensor bad oxygen sensor someone stealing your gas. jk poor wheel alignment fouled spark plugs get car washed.. (less wind resistance) any extra unnecessary weight? watch driving habits.. normal driving should not exceed 2,800 rpms
