Panoz goes to Performance Autosport for some go fast stuff...

Finally got all the parts in for the Panoz winter project and hauled it up to the guys at Performance Autosport. The car is getting a new top end for the 302 and a swap from fuel injection to a racing carb. The car is also getting a stiffer suspension, heavy duty rear trailing arms, and a rear swaybar kit, plus some general race car maintenance.

Pile of go-fast parts

Pro Systems Carb setup

Heading out

Unloaded at PAS

Some of the other cars at PAS... a mustang lovers dream

Dyno area w/ my buddy Phil's stang

Shop area

Will update as things progress.

I'll be interested to see your dyno numbers with that package.

We're hoping for around 320 rwhp and lots of torque. The AFRs coupled w/ the Pro Systems carb should make the car really boogie. The only limiting factor will be the FMS shorties as we're not having custom headers made just yet.

When is the car going to be ready to run Brian? Look forward to seeing how it all goes.

We are testing my car this Friday, so have been out in shed making up a single point jacking adaptor etc to make it a bit easier to work on the car. I expect to flat spot a couple of tyres getting the brake bias right so might as well make it easy to lift!!

That sounds very realistic. Check out this build. http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...dup/index.html

I would not be surprised to see 340 rwhp from your set up.

What are you using to adjust brake bias? Gary Jones informed me that the school cars are actually setup for the bias adjuster of the GTS cars, but the schools didn't want the students messing with them so they yanked them out. We're most likely going to get the parts and hook it all up. The car was a bit wiggly under hard braking.

Awesome... we'll have to see how much the shorties hinder the setup.

Might look into getting some headers made next winter, but I'm guessing the power we'll reach now will be plenty to make this 2700lb car fun.

I have changed the rear master cylinder to the same size as a GTS (from 1 1/8th down to 1") and have added a Tilton bias adjuster cable. This bolts straight in with no probs.

Have used initial setup for balance bar as per GTS manual so will see how that goes for starters. I am also thinking of changing away from the PFC 97 compound to a compound with a bit more torque. This will help to reduce pedal effort.

Nothing yet... no updates so far. They had a customers fresh cobra motor spin a rod bearing on initial startup and had to rip that back out and send the shortblock back to their builder so they got a few days behind schedule. We're in no hurry so no biggie. Will update when I have one

Yeah... so they were optimistic on how far behind they were. They started on it this week, but I'm assuming no real work will be done until Monday.

They're not a fly by night operation and I don't need the car until March so I'm not really concerned. It freed up space in my garage and has allowed me more room to fiddle w/ the Corvettes.

Brian, speaking of the corvettes's........I saw an old post of yours on Ls1tech.com while researching my LS1 motor build. Wouldn't mind picking your brain about good reliable(relatively low cost) power adders. I have a 2000 LS1 with a bunch of the Ls6 upgrades to it already, but want to do lifters, cam, pushrods, and rod bolts

I'd like to hear what Brian has to say as well. We've tossed this around once or twice before as I've been evaluating going that exact direction with my car. I'm torn between an LSX motor and a 347. The LSX would be the ultimate motor, light weight all aluminum construction and plenty of power potential. The down side is motor mount fabrication, custom headers, transmission fitment, accesories, etc. More time and $$$, but that's racing....
The 347 drops right in and uses the Canfield heads that I already have. I can make 450 hp with the Ford stroker and have NASA limited 350 hp at the rear wheels. That's what I've been weighing the pro's and con's on for about 6 months.

Pick away... PM me whatever questions you have. Most good vendors sell cam install kits w/ everything you need. I have a LGM G5-X2 cam in my car and it makes 436 rwhp on stock heads, manifold, TB. I do have Kooks headers w/ cats.

This just in... Panoz made 197/261 rwhp/rwtq... shortblock is 100% healthy. Time to make her faster! Pretty good numbers for a stock 5.0 having to turn a Ford 9" rear end.
